The sports hall at the University of Wollongong was a cultural melting pot last weekend, when the UOW Badminton Club held its annual tournament.

The world’s fastest racquet sport is popular across Asia and the Middle East, and the majority of competitors at the tournament were international students, particularly from China.

The tournament was sponsored by Chinese Academic Business Learning and Education (CABLE), a faculty-based club that helps Chinese students to enjoy university life and increase their networks.

CABLE President Jin Cui said many Chinese students have an enormous passion for badminton, regardless of how Chinese players perform on the world stage.
