The number of break and enter offences in Wollongong has steadily decreased over the past five years, according to new data. The rate of break and enters for dwelling-houses dropped from 469.9 in 2015 to 298 in 2019, a total decrease of 36.6%, a recent report by the NSW Bureau of Crime Statistics and Research reveals. Non-dwelling rates also fell by 46% from 221.9 in 2016 to 119.8 in 2018. With the help of education and an open mind, the University of Wollongong’s support group ‘Allsorts’ and the Queer AF organisation have given students the opportunity to be themselves by providing a safe place in the community.
