The Federal Government has announced major changes to negative gearing and capital gains tax (CGT). The changes come despite promises made at last year’s federal election that Labor would not alter negative gearing or the CGT due to the risk of harming housing supply. The federal government has implemented special laws to put the rogue construction branch of the CFMEU under forced administration. The new laws follow numerous allegations that the union has ties to known criminal organisations and has used bullying and intimidation tactics.
